Swag!

I have an extra copy of the Stitch 'n Bitch 2007 Calendar. I'm not much of a paper calendar user, so I'd like it to go to a good home. However, I'd like the lucky recipient to earn it.

Here's the contest. Leave a comment, any comment. Why you want the calendar, contribute a quick-knit pattern or link, follow up on something else I've written, whatever. Amuse, entertain and/or enlighten us. I'll give the calendar to one of the commenters at the end of next week. If you make a comment as a contest entry on some other thread than this one, put something to the effect of "by the way, gimme the calendar!" at the end. Because of comment spam, I need to approve all comments so be patient. I usually get to them within a short while if I'm at the computer. Multiple entries permitted, but don't turn into comment spam yourself.

Have fun!

[Update: You don't need to deserve this calendar to get it. Say something funny. Say something useful. Say something interesting. Say something amusing. Have fun.]

Why I'd like it ... well, I have three knitters in the house - myself, my dd(12) and ds1(7) and it's always nice to have something new & interesting to inspire both young and old(er). Ds2(5) would like to learn, but alas his dexterity is not quite there yet ... but we would love to have this as an addition to our knitting library so we may all expand our creative horizons. Thanks!

Ok, so why do you NEED to give me this calendar. Well, It's a long story but I'll try to keep it short. My 4 1/2 year old son was just diagnosed with sensory integration dysfunction (all signals in brain don't get through to the right place, thus thinking that things hurt when the don't. exp. my son thinks washing his hair is a painful experience and to wear socks are totally out of the question) So I have been dealing with an out of control 4 year old a 2 year old that thinks my kitchen floor is a place to poop and pee and won't keep a diaper on and a 7 year old who just wants mom to sit and teach her how to knit. oh yeh the dog thinks that the 2 year old poop is a treat to eat!!!!!! YUK. So, I have been knitting some here and there and when I do I don't dare be bothered as my husband says your a knitting B----. So I knit to keep myself sane and work to get away. Oh and by the way, that cream cabled sweater is absolutely beautiful. I hope someday that I can make something like that. Pam

I am sure there are other people more deserving than I am, but I would really love to have this calendar. I can never remember the date, I love to stitch AND bitch, my kids taught me to knit, I am addicted to patterns, it's my birthday on Thursday, my grandmother had a stroke this week, my brother has double Pneumonia, I am just getting over Pneumonia and my husband's cousin died on Wednesday. Yet, since my life's motto is to laugh even when it hurts, I am still amazingly sane because I knit!!!

Please consider me! :) mmmwah!

Posted by: Deb at January 20, 2007 5:28 PM

Well, of course, I don't NEED the calendar as much as I would like it. I don't even try to convince anyone that I will do a pattern a day -- I could, of course, but there are other things one has to do in life as well. I've been looking for this calendar for years now, but I don't think they sell it in this town. Obviously, someone must think we really don't need to be knitting something different every day, do we?

Yes, I am not the most needy of all your commenters, but just wanted to let you know that I would really be so happy if I got one of these!

Posted by: Tallguy at January 20, 2007 5:42 PM

Okayyy... I am more sure than ever that I am not nearly as deserving as the other people here. In fact, I would send a couple of them something myself if I had something available!! I'll be here, without a calander until I find somewhere that daily knitting pattern one I want, praying for all of you over my knitting! LOL! Lovies, Tara

Dear Leigh,

I'm an old friend from the very distant past. Thank you for your generous offer. Let me tell you that I don't need the calendar since I got one as a gift. Quite frankly I find it very lacking as compared to the Knitting Pattern A Day Calendar, but for free it should make someone happy. Just MVHO.

Calendar? Daze? Weaks? What the hell day is it? They come in order? Can I order more Tuesdays? What sighs do they come in? Can you custom dye them? The only thing certain is taxes and dyeing. I'd like a dozen Tuesdays in Neopolitan eye scream colors. I'm on a dudline and can't see straight, only circular. Doublepoints snapping in the cold. Send reinforcements, the heels are making a break for it. Daze, indeed.

Hey, Leigh!
I was talking to this guy who's writing a book about "knit-alongs" and he was talking about how much he doesn't like men's sweater patterns. His wife is the knitter. I asked him if he had seen Vogue Knitting lately. Seems the only pattern he liked was YOURS, fella. Yes, Leigh. You, the brilliant designer! The only man who can truly design a sweater for this picky guy. Leigh, my hero...

Have I sucked up enough.....????

Would it help if I just said, PLEASE!!!?

Calendar? What calendar? Stitch 'n Which? Go ahead, make my day !

Posted by: Margaret at January 20, 2007 8:27 PM

I wish to make a plea for the calender. If I promise to knit you something from it, would that work? puhleese????

Posted by: Sherry at January 20, 2007 9:37 PM

I'd love it because my girlfriend and I will be moving in together this year (after three years of bi-homalism), and we both knit. It would be so cool to have this as our household central calendar.

This is only the second place I have seen a SNB calendar mentioned. How come I haven't heard about it, seen it on the internet? I need this calender! I only have two at my sunroom table, two at my computer desk...wait a minute, I just remembered a knitting wall calender I pulled out today...ummm...then there are the cool little calenders the bank give you for the car. Oops...then there is the tractor motor calender my friend gave me from work. Oh yeah, and the Harley calender across the room at hub's space. does the two daily planners count? I am going to quit counting now. Guess I am a calender freak...kinda goes with the paper and pen collection. Okay, I need the calender for my collection. I live out in the wild boonies too, with no LYS and have to do all shopping online. I deserve this calender.
btw....do you have any advertising pens?

OK, I admit, if I get the calendar I'll probably give it away as a door prize at DFW Fiber Fest 2007 because I got one - SIGNED - at Morehouse Yarns last fall.

I wanted to be sure to tell you, Leigh, that I LOVE your sweater in Vogue Knitting and will probably make it for ME! I love things with cables and keep looking for different and interesting variations. As soon as I saw the mag in the rack I grabbed it, knowing only that your pattern was in it. So there!

goodness. after reading some of the responses your contest has brought forth .. i am not sure that i have much to say. i LIKE the calendar, i LOVE the craft, i ADORE other knitters, i am FASCINATED reading patterns and using my imagination which is a good thing as i would need more lives than a cat to do my to-do list! lol ... whomever you select, i wish them "happy needles!!!"

Posted by: diane at January 21, 2007 8:41 AM

I don't really NEED the calendar, I WANT the calendar!

Posted by: Kenyetta at January 21, 2007 10:11 AM

What? You have a pattern in Vogue Knitting?!?!?!? How cool is that!?!?! I haven't been able to find one locally to peruse yet. Sadly. If anyone has the urge to send me one of those it would be fabulous - hint hint. LOL!!

I had the pleasure of escorting Debbie Stoller while she was in North Carolina on a book tour. She was incredibly popular--there were large crowds everywhere we went--and she was charming to all her fans (and to me). I'd like to have the calendar as a reminder of the fun day I had with Debbie.

I'm probably not deserving of anything knit-related, since I'm apparently not capable of learning from my fiber experience. Short story: My dog, Java, is a bichon/schnauzer mix who gets pretty fuzzy by this time in the winter. A few days ago she managed to eat something that interfered with her digestive process (to put it kindly). Since it's been below zero outside for the past week and I'm not about to put her stinky self into my clean bathtub, last night I found myself wearing rubber gloves, washing her backside out of a bucket of hot soapy water in the garage. So as I'm scrubbing away, somewhere in the back of my mind a little bell is going off: "hot water, soap, friction..." Yup, I felted my dog's backside! First it was the candy-striped holiday sweater, and now this --it may take her a while to forgive me...

It has patterns? Ooh, I am started to feel very interested in this calendar. And there is another knitter from NC here? I was beginning to think I was the lone knitter here! LOL!! I am near the Lake Norman area. Where are you from in NC Molly? Just curious!
~~Lovies, Tara, no longer the lone knitter, who really wants a calendar that has PATTERNS to offer!

Posted by: Tara Tevepaugh at January 21, 2007 11:47 AM

Leigh, it looks like you've got quite the contest on your hands here!

All I can say is that I had a great time yesterday afternoon at a tidepooling party. It was super-low tide, and we went to Swami's beach in Encinitas (down behind the Fellowship Center with the fancy gold onion-domes, if you know Encinitas), and turned over rocks. We found shrimp, snails, sea stars of many kinds, little crabs, octopi, sea slugs (one of which was at least twelve inches long!), and all kinds of other things, including a worm that has green blood. (We didn't wound it to find out; the couple hosting the party are neurobiologists and know this sort of stuff.)

And afterwards we all went back to their house and had hot spiced cider and a really yummy dinner.

So how does this have anything whatsoever to do with knitting? Well, when you go tidepooling, you're wading. And the water is cold, and the rocks aren't fun to walk on in bare feet. So you wear sandals and WOOL SOCKS. And my WOOL SOCKS are part of my humongous collection of handknitted socks.

So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!

I am not worthy, I am not worthy, but should you deign to choose me, I will worship you for the
G-ddess that you are.

I can start groveling really seriously now, if you'd like... hahahahahahaha... I crack myself up.

Best, and thanks for the cute contest,

Deb

Posted by: Deb D at January 21, 2007 2:47 PM

Rule #1 of effective groveling:

Know the sex of the person who you're sucking up to. Otherwise, low-light situations could be awkward.

I don't mind being your Goddess to worship for limited periods, but only if you provide the acceptable drag. And I refuse to tuck.

Posted by: Leigh Witchel at January 21, 2007 2:59 PM

Okay those were serously amusing.........

Posted by: Tara Tevepaugh at January 21, 2007 4:43 PM

Honey, I've lost over 200 lbs. and I refuse to tuck also, so I kinda know how you feel... I've got people asking me, "where'd you put it all?" Hahahahahaha... Well, you get the idea.

Best,

Deb

Posted by: Deb D at January 21, 2007 5:44 PM

Hey, Leigh, comments okay even if I hope the calendar will go to someone else? I don't need one. Just wondering if you're going to do another Dance As Ever knit auction this year.

Posted by: AlisonH at January 21, 2007 7:42 PM

I can't think of a thing that might make me worthy of such magnificent generosity.
Just this morning I stole breakfast from an orphan and tripped a little old lady while she crossed the street.
And I made someone rip out half a sweater front.

There is no limit to my evil.

Posted by: juno at January 21, 2007 8:15 PM

Madre de Dias! Ayeee! We don't need no stinkin' dias around here.
No te quedarĂ¡ bonito!

WHAT? You say it's 2007? Thanks for letting me know. I currently reside in 1995 (thanks to Mr. Peabody and his fantastic Wayback Machine). Let me know when it's 12 Noon, Jan 20, 2009 and I'll rejoin the present. Until then, I have no need of a calendar, unless, of course, you have a spare one for 1996.

What is a Dance As Ever knit auction?

With wine in hand, one reaches that state where

men are wise,

women are beautiful,

and even ones children begin to look promising.

(Okay, so now can I puhleeeeze have the calendar? I promise to treat it well and share it with fellow knitters in my area. Puhleeeeze?)

Posted by: Jami at January 22, 2007 11:44 AM

Well, as everyone else has stated, I REALLY REALLY want this calendar.

I am a homeschooling mother of three who just moved from gorgeous Colorado (with a 4000 sq ft house )to California (now living in a three bedroom townhouse with my husband, 3 kids, and two mutts!) I am going stir crazy and my only outlet is my knitting. It has become my yoga and very inexpensive therapy! This calendar could actually save my life and the well being of my children! Without it, I might run out of patterns, forget which day it is, fail to get my children up to do school, as a result they will not be passed on to the next grade, never graduate from school, fail to go to college, and they will end up working at McDonalds or cleaning toilets at 7-11.

I truly need it!
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by: Shellyhouse at January 22, 2007 12:05 PM

I'd like the calendar, very much, but I think as far as amusement goes, the calendar *should* go to Spinneret. She had me ROLLING. Personally, I'd take more Saturdays.

Posted by: MonkeyGurrl at January 22, 2007 3:13 PM

I live with a contractor. Every calendar in my house has naked or semi-naked buxom babes on it! Please please pretty please, I need to know what day it is without feeling saggy and baggy. :)

Posted by: Kit at January 22, 2007 5:26 PM

I don't need the calendar, but Javamom's comment about felting her dog's back side had me ROFLM(HK)SO!(rolling on the floor laughing my [hand knit]socks off)--til I cried!
